Black History Month
Berhan School celebrates Black History Month throughout February. Students participate by presenting research they have done on a prominent Black person, and we discuss their past and show Black accomplishments. In addition, we invite guest speakers from our community who would lead different discussions with our students regarding issues that affect the Black community.

Pan- Africanism
Our Black History Month Celebration for 2022 started with the messaging "know the past, Shape the future." Our first guest was Dr. Thomas Debssou on the topic of Pan-Africanism. Our students learned what the Pan-African movement was and how it became prevalent and important among young Africans. Watch
On the second week of February, we had another Guest, an educator Tiblet Kidanu who led a discussion with our students about different African countries, animals and African resources. So again, we had a lovely evening of conversation.

Shaping the Future
On the third week of February, we had our third event with Tsion, a social worker, who led a conversation on young Black people's involvement in society and how they are advocating for a better world as a society and influencer makers in our community. We discussed with our students how they could also play a part in shaping the future.

Mind Drain
In the last week of February, we had our guest speaker Dawit Debssou, a lawyer, speak with our students on the effect of Brain Drain. In addition, our students engaged in a discussion regarding the impact of migration from third-world countries and its effects on the development of that country.
