This past Ethiopian Christmas, Berhan school students organized a fundraising event to raise money for kids in Ethiopia who were having a hard time due to the civil conflict in the country.

Arado School
Berhan School students participated by making different art products, writing a poem and performing it at the fundraising event. Also, they raised money by making sweets and selling the sweets to people in the Halifax area.
We were able to raise $6540 from this fundraising event.
We then were looking into donating the funds we raised to an organization working with kids and education. We were introduced to a small school in the Afar region of Ethiopia in a town called Assayita. We were especially interested in supporting this school because it has a similar story to Berhan School.

Arado Classroom
Arado School works hand in hand with parents to shape their students. Parents are involved in different committees and clubs.
We have started a partnership long term relationship with Arado School. This school teaches students starting from kindergarten to eighth grade. The school has a total of 690 students.
Among the different programs Arado school offers to the student, one of the most effective programs is the free lunch the school provides to their students. This program is funded by the participating parents, who pay five birr to the school.

The school also grows grass in their compound and sells it to cover the cost of some office supplies and teaching supplies.
Berhan School's primary goal is to develop a long-term partnership with Arado school. Furthermore, we aim to make Arado School complete with functioning facilities to offer quality education. All this would not be possible without the continued support of our diaspora community, so we would like to thank you for what you have done and will continue to do.
