Last Sunday, May 15, Berhan School hosted a Zoom event to thank and report to all the donors who contributed to our fundraising event last January on how we spent the money we raised.

Our board member Sewalem Maru started the event by thanking all participating Berhan students who contributed to the fundraising event by making different art products. We then thanked their parents and guests who participated in the auction that we held at the fundraising event.

With the $6540 we raised from the fundraising and the $500 anonymous donor, we had $7040 to donate to a school in Ethiopia called Arado.

We spent $6890 on different essential pieces of equipment the school needed. Arado school is found in the town called Assayta in the Afar region and has 690 students. After the teacher handwrote the exam, the school director used to travel to a city to print and copy exams and quizzes.

Berhan School bought a copy machine, one office computer, one teacher computer, a sewing machine, a projector, two laptops, a DVD player, speakers, internet service for four months, one microscope, and some backpacks to reward outstanding students.

We are so grateful to all who donated to the fundraising event. Because of the money you donated, we solved one of Arado School's main problems by getting them a copy machine.

Arado School will continue to need our support. Berhan School will continue to hold different fundraising events to cover the cost of modernizing Arado school with basic faculties like a science lab and computer lab.

Among the items Berhan school purchased for Arado School, the Sewing machine will play an essential role for the school and the girls of Assayta town.

Arado school's Gender club will start producing reusable menstruation pads free for the club members. They have already finished training ten people to use the new electric sewing machine.

They now need capital to get the necessary materials to start using the sewing machine to produce the menstruation pads.

We estimate the total for this will come to around $1475.

On the other hand, we need to purchase office supplies. The end of the school season is around the corner, and exams need to be printed. With Arado school now having their copy, print & scanning machine, they no longer need to travel to a city to get their exams printed, but they require paper and small office supplies like pen and chart paper. We estimated this would cost around $605.

Berhan School needs to raise $2080 by the end of May to cover Arado school's essential needs before the new school year.

On Sunday, May 15, we raised $780 from participating guests on Zoom at our event. We are still accepting donations through E-transfer at berhantimertbet@gmail.com.

We believe that when communities contribute to a common cause, they can accomplish great things, no matter how small. So you can make your contribution today.

Thank you.
